Contact Your Member of Parliament

Your MP represents you in the House of Commons and can raise issues on your behalf, ask questions of ministers, and advocate for policy changes.

Find Your MP

The UK Parliament website provides an official tool to find your MP by entering your postcode.

How to Write to Your MP

1. Identify Yourself as a Constituent

Always include your full name and address to confirm you are a constituent. MPs prioritise correspondence from people in their constituency.

2. Be Clear and Specific

Clearly state the issue you are raising, any relevant legislation (such as the Equality Act 2010), and what action you would like your MP to take.

3. Include Supporting Evidence

Where appropriate, reference specific cases, reports, or evidence that supports your position. This strengthens your request.

4. Request a Specific Action

Ask your MP to take specific action, such as raising a question in Parliament, writing to a minister, or supporting a particular amendment.

Effective Advocacy Tips

  • 1Keep your letter concise and focused on one main issue where possible.
  • 2Reference specific legislation such as the Equality Act 2010, the Care Act 2014, or the Human Rights Act 1998.
  • 3If you have had previous correspondence or casework, reference it to provide continuity.
  • 4Follow up if you do not receive a response within 2-3 weeks.
  • 5Consider requesting a surgery appointment for complex issues that benefit from face-to-face discussion.
